On June 13, 2020, the day before Flag Day, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Chinkchewunska Chapter member Jennifer C.S. Brylinski (a member of our Stovall Family Association) donated a new American flag to fly on the front lawn of the Chapter’s Van Bunschooten Museum, located in Wantage, New Jersey.

The museum house was built in about 1790 by a Dutch Reformed Church minister and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It is owned and maintained by the DAR Chinkchewunska Chapter.

The flag was given to Jennifer during a military ceremony at the National Cemetery in Calverton, New York, in honor of her father Albert H. Stovall, who passed in 2017. Albert was a veteran of the Korean War and served proudly in the US Navy on the battleship USS Wisconsin. It is through his Stovall line that Jennifer has lineage to Civil War veterans, Revolutionary War Patriot Josiah Stovall, and to our Stovall Immigrant Bartholomew.

Museum caretaker Gene Bootsma and Jennifer raised the flag to half-staff, as required at that time by an Executive Order of the New Jersey Governor. Jennifer said she could think of no higher honor for this flag then to fly gracefully on the Daughters of the American Revolution museum property. Her father would have been proud to see it.
